An Overview :
Located at a distance of 125km from Junagarh, the island of Diu is one of
the finest beaches in the Saurashtra coast of Gujarat. Its soft sandy beach
with swaying palm trees and fantastic forts, churches make it one of the
most beautiful beach holiday destination in Gujarat. The island of Diu was a
Portuguese colony and a major port for maritime trade during 14th and 16th
century.
Climate & Ideal Time to Visit :
Situated at an altitude of 29 meters, the beach experience a pleasant
climate. During summer, it average summer temperature varies between 20 and
38 degrees C and in winters it is between 20 and 25 degrees C. The region
receives an average annual rainfall of 70 cms. The ideal time for a beach
holiday in the beach of Diu is from October to May.
Attraction near the beach :
Diu Fort - Built between 1535 and 1541 AD, this magnificent structure
offers beautiful view of the sea. It was constructed by Bahadurshah the
ruler of Gujarat after a defence alliance with the Portuguese. The fort is
surrounded by sea on three sides. Its large windows with stone galleries and
several cannons peeping out of its walls are prime attractions of the fort.

Light House - A vast structure which is a part of the Fort Diu now
serves as a lighthouse of the beach.
» Gangeshwar Temple - The temple is dedicated to
Lord Shiva and house five Shiva lingam, which are worshiped by the pilgrims.
» Nagao Beach - The horseshoe shaped beach is
another must see beach near Diu.
» Daman - Located on the coast of Gujarat, this
beautiful port town attracts tourists for its beach and some historical
monuments of Portuguese period.
» Kevdi - It is located at a distance of 6km from
Diu on the Melala Nagoa Road. This offers comfortable tented accommodation
facilities for tourists with picturesque surroundings.

» By Air- Diu is well connected by Indian Airlines
with Bombay and Ahmedabad.
» By Rail- The nearest railway station is
Delwada(9km) by metre gauge line. But the major railhead is at
Veraval(85km), which is connected to Bombay via Ahmedabad.
» By Road- Diu is well connected by road to all
major towns and cities of Gujarat. Some major road distances are: Una(30km),
Ahmedabad(495), Bhavnagar(225km), Bombay(930km), Daman(763km),
Sasangir(128km), Rajkot(261km).
» By Local Transport - Taxis and auto-rickshaws are
major modes of local transport.
