Overview of Trivandrum Kerala :
Trivandrum or Thiruvananthapuram is the capital of the southern Indian
state Kerala. This ancient city is a beautiful sea side city lying on hills
of the Western Coast of India. The city gets its name from the word,
Thiruvanathapuram, meaning the city of Anantha - the abode of the sacred
serpent king. In ancient time the city was a major trading centre and now
one of the most industrialized cities of the state Kerala. The city also
offers numerous varieties of tourist attractions which include ancient
temples, historic monuments, beaches and hill stations.
Climate of Trivandrum :
The city experiences a tropical climate with high level of humid and
therefore doesn't have any particular season. The average maximum
temperature is around 34 degrees C while the average minimum is around 21
degrees C. December, January and February are the coldest months when the
temperature drops down to 15 degrees C and March, April are the hottest
months when temperature can go as high as 37 degrees C.
Tourist Attractions of Trivandrum :
Numerous historic buildings, temples and museums offer a better insight
into the glorious past of the city. Some important tourist attractions of

Padmanabhaswami Temple - Built in typical Dravidian style, it is one of
the most sacred places for Hindus in South India. The temple is dedicated to
Padmanabhaswami, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. The temple is a sprawling
complex with several carved granite pillars and a 100-feet-high gopuram or
tower.
» Napier Museum - Also known as the Government Art
Museum, the Napier Museum is a perfect example of Indo-Saracenic
architectural style. The museum houses a rich varieties of artifacts
exhibits various carvings, ethnic ornaments and several other historic and
archaeological artifacts.
» Margi School - It is one of the important
traditional schools of Kerala, where dance drams like Kathakali and
Kuttiyatam are taught.
» Sri Chitra Art Gallery - Located near the Napier
Museum, this art gallery has a rich collection of miniature paintings
associated with Bengali, Rajasthani and Mughal school of paintings. It also
has a good collection of Chinese and Japanese artistic objects and portraits
of Maharaja and their families.
Getting to Trivandrum :
» By Air - Thiruvananthapuram has an international
airport that is connected of Gulf countries, Maldives and Srilanka. It is
also connected to various parts of the country by several domestic flights.

By Rail - Located at Thampanoor, the Trivandrum Central Railway Station
is well connected to all the major cities of India. The station is at a
distance of 8 km from the city centre.
» By Road - Trivandrum is connected with important
cities in the country by a good motorable road network. Kerala State Road
Transport Corporation(KSRTC) and some private operators have bus services to
all the major towns and cities in and around the state.
» By Local Transport - City buses and auto
rickshaws are major means of local transportation.
