Overview of Udiapur :
Situated in the valley of the Aravallis, the city of lakes Udaipur is a
major tourist attraction of the north Indian state of Rajasthan. It was the
capital of the Mewar Kingdom, ruled by the Sisodia dynasty for about 1200
years. The city derives the name from its founder Maharaja Udai Singh who
established it in 1559 A.D. The city has numerous popular tourist
attractions including lakes, palaces, temples, gardens and some other
historic monuments which are worth visiting.
Climate of Udiapur :
The city experiences a pleasant climate with a moderate temperature
difference than any other cities of Rajasthan. Its maximum summer
temperature can rises up to 38 degrees C and the minimum winter temperature
can drop below 11 degrees C. It receives an average annual rainfall of
around 61 cm.
Tourist Attractions of Udiapur :
» City Palace Complex - Situated along the eastern
bank of Lake Pichola, this interesting palace complex was built by Maharaja
Udai Singh. There are a large number of beautiful structure inside the
palace complex displaying a typical Rajput style architecture. The palace
complex can be approached through two main gateways : Bada Pol and Hathi
Pol. The entire complex consists of several courtyards, pavilions, terraces
and some beautiful gardens. A portion of the palace complex has now been
converted into a museum with rich artifacts and is worthy of visit.

Lake Pichola - This 4km long and 3km wide lake was enlarged by Maharaja
Udai Singh II, who founded the city. The picturesque lake is surrounded by
hills, palaces and temples. It has two island palaces : Jag Niwas and Jag
Mandir, which provide an evocative views of surrounding area.
» Lake Fateh Sagar - This breathtakingly beautiful
lake was built by Maharaja Jai Singh but got its name Fateh Sagar, who
rebuilt its dam. The lake also provides boat cruises on its water.
» Sahelion Ki Bari - Located near the Fateh Sagar
Lake, this picturesque garden with lawns, fountains, was built in the 18th
century for the royal ladies. There is also a small museum located inside
the garden and is worthy of visit.
» Jagdish Temple - Built in 1561 by Maharaja Jagat
Singh, this is one of the most visited temples of Udaipur dedicated to Lord
Vishnu.
» Mewar Festival - It is one of the important
festivals of the city celebrated to welcome the advent of Spring. This
provides a glimpse to the rich tradition and culture of Rajasthan.

By Air - The city has its own airport named the Maharana Pratap(Dabok
Airport). It is well connected to some of the major cities of India by
regular air services.
» By Rail - The Udaipur Railway Station is well connected to
Jaipur, Delhi, Jodhpur and some other major destinations of Rajasthan and
surrounding states by several express trains like the Chetak Express and the
Lake City Express. The luxury train Palace on Wheels also covers the city in

» By Road - A well maintained road network links the city with
the capital city Delhi and some other major destinations of Rajasthan and
Gujarat.
