Overview :
Located at the southwestern end of the Aravalli hills at a height of 1220m,
it is the only hill station of the royal state Rajasthan. The hill station
is built around a lake and is surrounded by picturesque forest hills. It is
popular for its Dilwara temples, lake, some old palace, archaeological
remains and several interesting picnic spots. It was one of the favorite
summer destinations for British, who came here to escape from the severe
heat waves of northern India.
Climate of Mount Abu :
The city experiences a pleasant climate throughout the year. Its summer
temperature varies between 23 and 34 degrees C and in winters it is between
11 and 28 degree C. Warm clothes are required in winters(November-January).
The hill station receives an average annual rainfall of 65-177 cms.
Tourist Attractions in Mount Abu :
» Nakki Lake - Located on the heart of the town,
this beautiful artificial lake is believed to have carved out by the Gods
using their fingernails. The lake also offers boating facilities and the
Raghunath Temple is another major tourist attraction near the lake. Its
picturesque surroundings makes it one of the favorite hangout zones in Mount
Abu.
» Dilwara Jain Temples - This Jain temple complex
consists of five marble temples built during 11th and 13th century. These
temples are dedicated to different Jain Tirthankaras(saints) and are popular
for their superb carvings. Vimal Vasahi is the oldest amongst them, which
was built in 1031 by Vimal Shah a merchant from Gujarat. It is dedicated to
the first Jain Tirthankar Adinath. These temples are excellent example of
Jain temple architecture.

Gaumukh Temple - Located at a distance of 4km south of Mount Abu, it is
dedicated to Lord Rama is centered on a natural spring flowing out from the
mouth of a marble cow and hence gives the shrine its name. One can reach the
temple by covering 750 steps.
» Government Museum - Located on the complex of Raj
Bhawan, the museum was established in 1962. It has good collection of art
and artifacts and historic objects associated with this region.
» Mount Abu Wildlife Sanctuary - The sanctuary is
known for its rich variety of flora and fauna and attracts wildlife
enthusiasts on a large scale. Some of the major animal species found here
are Sambhar, Jungle Cat, Indian Civet, Jackal, Indian Fox, Langoor, Wild
Boar, Hyaena and Sloth Bear.

Various hotels and resorts offer excellent accommodation options with all
kinds of modern facilities. There are also many budget hotels and guest
houses are available at cheap prices. Some most suitable hotels are : the
Hotel Hillock, Hotel Hilltone, Palace Hotel, Hotel Jaipur House, Hotel Cama
Rajputana.
Getting to Mount Abu :
» By Air - Dabok Airport(Udaipur) is the nearest
one and is at a distance of 210 km from Mount Abu.
» By Rail - Abu Road(27km) is the major railhead
and is on the broad gauge line. It is well connected to Delhi, Mumbai and
all the major cities and towns of Rajasthan.
» By Road - Mount Abu is easily accessible from all
parts of India by a well connected road network. Some of the major road
distances are : Ahmedabad(222km), Jodhpur(235km), Udaipur(156km),
Jaipur(509km).
