Overview :
Munnar is one of the most beautiful hill stations of the southern Indian
state of Kerala. It is located at an altitude of 5000 to 8000 ft. and is at
the confluence point of three mountain streams - Mudrapuzha, Nallathani,
Kundala. This Munnar Hill Station was once the summer capital of British government in South
India. Its sprawling tea plantation, picturesque natural beauty of the town
and some exotic varieties of flora make it one of the popular hill station
in South India. It also houses the highest point of South India, the Anamudi
at a high of 2695 m. This is a perfect place for trekking. Tea and coffee
plantation further added to the beauty of the hill station.
Climate of Munnar :
The hill station experiences a pleasant climate throughout the year. Its
summer months from April to June are mild with a maximum temperature at
around 20 degrees C and winters from November to February are cool, when the
temperature drops down to as low as 5 degrees C. The hill resort can be
visited in anytime of the year besides the monsoons(June - September).
Tourist Attractions in Munnar :
» Mattupetty Reservoir - Located at a hight of 1700
m above sea level, the lake and dam of Mattupetty is a beautiful picnic
spot. It is also famous for its highly specialized diary farm - a joint
venture of India and Switzerland. There are around 100 varieties of high
yielding cattle are reared here.
» Top Station - Situated at a hight of 1700 m, this
is a popular spot in the hill station which offers panoramic views of the
surrounding cities.
» Anamudi - This is the highest peak of South India
and a hight of 2695 m. The place is popular for its rare flora and fauna
species. It also offers some of the best trekking routes. Tourist are also
allowed to go on foot up to Anamudi.
» Rajamala Wildlife Sanctuary - The sanctuary is at
a distance of 17 kms from Munnar which is the home to a variety of animals
including the Nilgiri Tahr. The sanctuary also offers wonderful views of the
valley.

Madurai. Munnar is also connected to Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu via Pollachi.
