palm fringed and tranquil backwaters of Kerala are the major tourist
attractions of Kerala. Backwater are the major regions lying close to the
sea and are primarily the interconnected waterways comprising of rivers,
lakes, lagoons, inlets and deltas. These mainly receive waters from sea and
also monsoon contributes to its water level.
Kerala's backwater destinations are basically inland lakes connected by a
network of cannals. Stretching almost 1900km, there are around 41 rivers
which were earlier used for all transportation needs. Now, these waterways
are used to communicate the remote villages and island. These backwater
routes are communicable by traditional houseboats(Kettuvallom), which
